Wood Fire Saunas are an Old-Fashioned Pleasure

There are a variety of saunas on the market today that offer comfort and relaxation, but wood fire saunas are a favorite because they are the most traditional type. They produce a soft, enveloping steam and have additional “atmosphere” because of the scent of clean wood smoke. If you are looking into this style of sauna, the most important feature is the wood burning sauna heater itself, which should be your most important investment.

What makes a wood burning unit so popular with so many people? For one thing, it is the original style of Finnish sauna – you just can’t get more traditional than with outdoor wood fired saunas. Other reasons include:

  • The mood evoked by the sound of a crackling wood fire adds to the relaxation and enjoyment.
  • It’s easy to adjust the temperature and humidity by simply adjusting the damper on your sauna room heater.
  • Larger space for adding rocks means you get more even heat.
  • You don’t need electricity at your sauna if you include a water tank, and you can install one anywhere outdoors where you can pour a concrete pad.

Keep in mind that you should check with your local municipality if you do want to consider installing a sauna that uses a wood fired heater. The regulations vary from area to area, and you want to make sure before building a home sauna and installing a heater that you can use it when it is complete. You should also carefully read all of the installation and safety instructions so that, once installed, your wood burning sauna works perfectly. Once it is complete, you can relax in the steam of a true Finnish-style sauna.
