Sauna Building Plans & Kits – Choose the Right One for Your Skill Level

When you purchase a kit from a sauna manufacturer, make sure the kit contains detailed sauna building plans and assembly instructions. A precut or pre-built sauna kit contains a lot of parts that need to be assembled in the correct order to get the job done right the first time. Each kit comes with its own sauna construction plan. There are two types of kits to choose from: Precut or custom designed kits and pre-built or modular kits.

First, determine your skill level. If you know how to use a hammer and a saw and you want to save some serious money by constructing your own home sauna, go with precut sauna kits. Remember that these kits need to be installed in an existing room. Alternatively, you can build a suitable room by constructing and insulating a frame for installation of the kit. Plan on spending at least 2 to 3 days assembling the kit by following the construction plans, more if you need to build a frame.

If you are not comfortable with your carpentry skills, don’t despair. A pre-built kit contains all the materials and building plans to construct a functioning sauna within a few hours. These pre-built modular saunas cost a bit more but save you the hassle of measuring, cutting and hammering. That’s because the wall and ceiling panels in these kits are pre-built and pre-fitted for easy assembly on site. A pre-hung door, pre-assembled benches, hardware and accessories make construction a snap by following the step-by-step building plans. These kits and plans are for freestanding, complete saunas that can be constructed in a spare corner of the bedroom, bathroom, basement or garage.

Whether you plan building with a precut sauna kit or plan on simplifying construction by buying one of the prefabricated home saunas, manufacturers will let you customize your installation to fit your particular requirements. You can choose from the type of wood used in the construction (poplar, aspen, cedar, pine or fir), type of heater (wood, electric, gas or infrared), type of door and accessories for a home sauna that is totally unique.
