Redwood Sauna Kits Best Choice for a Home Sauna

If you are looking into a sauna package, consider one of the great redwood sauna kits. What is the best wood for saunas has been debated since the first sauna was built thousands of years ago in Finland, and will no doubt rage on for many more years. However, more people choose redwood for their precut sauna kit than any other type of material, and for good reason.

Redwood Ideal for Sauna Kits

Redwood is a soft wood, which makes it more “breathable” – that is, it can swell and shrink with the temperature changes inherent in a sauna without the wood becoming dried out. If it couldn’t do this, the constant shrinking and swelling would lead to cracks and brittleness of the wood, damaging the sauna after only a few years. Another quality of redwood is that it stays cool even when the surrounding environment is extremely hot. This is perfect for sitting comfortably on a bench in your sauna.

Select the Proper Grade

Decay resistance is also important in a sauna, and redwood fights decay beautifully. The wood has naturally occurring tannins and phenols that act as a preservative to prolong the life of your sauna. One thing you must look out for when shopping for a redwood sauna, however, is the grade of the wood. Even if you use redwood sauna kits, you can run into problems if the wood is an inferior grade. You want the highest grade, clear redwood so that there are no knots. Knots can be a problem because, being harder than the surrounding wood, the expanding and contracting in a sauna can loosen them and cause them to fall out. If there are no knots, you will avoid this problem.

When shopping, be sure to check out the grade and type of wood in any sauna you are considering. For the best performance and lasting beauty, go with redwood sauna kits.
