Precut Saunas – Total Flexibility in a Do-It-Yourself Kit

Precut saunas are a great way for a do-it-yourself home renovator or contractor to build a sauna without having to build entirely from scratch. These material kits come with all the major components pre-cut and allow for total flexibility as far as the shape and size of room is concerned. You can buy a kit that is made for a specific size room or you can custom order the material package to work it into any available area such as the bathroom, bedroom, basement, patio or garage. By doing most of the work yourself you can save some serious money.

The terms “pre-cut” and “pre-built” are often confusing for buyers. A precut do-it-yourself sauna kit contains all the material needed for the inside of the sauna. These kits contain tongue-and-groove boards or paneling for the inside walls, benches, the heater and heater guard, duck floor boards, the door, vent and all necessary hardware for doing it yourself. If there is no existing room available, an insulated frame has to be constructed before installation of the sauna.

Pre-built modular saunas are freestanding rooms that do not require building a frame or an existing room. These kits contain pre-built and pre-fitted wall and ceiling panels and are very easy to put up by yourself. The sauna door is pre-hung, benches are pre-assembled and the heater is appropriately sized for its application. Expect to pay more for these prefabricated home saunas than with a precut do-it-yourself kit.

The installation of a precut sauna kit requires on average 2 – 3 days depending on your skill level and how much of the work you will be doing yourself. The most difficult part will be the installation of the door. Pre-hung doors are available for some of these pre-cut kits as an option. Pre-built or modular do-it-yourself kits can be assembled in a few hours and require only low skill levels. A licensed electrician is required to hook up the heater and light fixtures.
