Precut Sauna Kits
Build A Finnish Sauna With Precut Sauna Kits
Precut sauna kits make building a Finnish home sauna a
fairly easy project requiring only medium carpentry skills. You can choose
from a number of precut material packages and kits that contain everything
needed to build your own, or you can custom design a home sauna to fit a
particular space by ordering exactly the correct materials needed.
Home saunas can be built just about anywhere – indoors or outdoors.
Manufacturers of custom designed Finnish saunas and kits can assist you with
every step and provide advice during its construction. Building your own
from a precut kit helps you save money and you can select the type of wood,
heater and accessories for a unique home sauna installation you can be proud
of.
A typical custom sauna kit or precut material package contains these items:
- Walls & Ceiling - Tongue-and-groove boards
or paneling for the interior walls. The most common wood for the inner
walls and ceiling of a Finnish sauna is spruce or pine. In North America,
most designs use kiln-dried cedar or poplar.
- Benches - Precut materials to build at least 2
benches. Kits usually come with bench supports, braces and backrests to
build a lower and upper bench.
- Flooring – Removable duck-boards or wooden slat
flooring.
- Heater – A wood-burning stove is the preferred
choice for an authentic Finnish design. Indoor saunas are best heated with
an electric, infrared or gas heater.
- Pre-hung door – Installing the door is the most
difficult part when assembling a custom designed precut kit. Look for a
material package that comes with a pre-hung door to simplify installation.
- Vapor barrier – Kits come with a foil vapor
barrier to help prevent moisture from condensing and to keep the heat
inside.
- Accessories – Accessories include the lights,
vents, thermometer, bucket and ladle, and all hardware necessary to
assemble the precut material kit.
Designing and building your own Finnish sauna with one of
these custom material packages is really a snap. It’s best to build the
frame and insulate the walls and ceiling first. Then supply the manufacturer
with the inside dimensions of the room you designed and have them custom cut
all the boards to fit the space exactly. These kits need to be installed on
a waterproof surface. Plan on spending 2 to 3 days assembling one of these
precut sauna kits.
